Ok, I’ll be the first to admit, I am NOT a reader. When life is so busy and I am working on a computer all day, typically the last thing I want to do is to read. During quarantine however, I was craving an escape. Social media had become overwhelming, reality TV was stressing my out and I was really just searching for activities that would make me feel productive while tapping into some “escapism.” So here is what I have been reading during quarantine and what’s still on my list for the rest of the Summer!
This book resonated with me on a deep as f*** level. I absolutely loved reading about the inner workings of the entertainment industry and just how much body image really played into her career. She really did not hold back at all when talking about the men she’s been with and how they shaped her life. I think we all remember the days of “Nick and Jessica” on MTV (hello that was like the first reality show) and it was so interesting to hear about how their relationship evolved when the camera was around them.
Pretty Things by Janelle Brown
If you are looking for an easy Summer read to take to the beach, this is the book! Though it’s long, it moves pretty quickly and has a bunch of twists and turns throughout the story. It’s one of those books that you can skim through and each chapter unpacks a different character’s side of the story. I love reading something that shares different perspectives!
For all of the creatives out there that are looking to get a kick in the butt! The Artist’s Way is a sort of “self-help” book that takes you on a journey to better your craft. This book is where the idea of “the morning pages” comes from where you write 3 pages by hand every single morning. You can write about whatever you want. I look at it as a sort of meditation.
I cannot WAIT to read this book. For those who don’t know, Andre Leon Talley was Vogue’s Creative Director during its’ rise to dominance in the industry. I have met the legendary director once before when I was working for a close friend of his in New York. He was so full of insider stories so I can only imagine what this book will entail. If you are, or are looking to be in the fashion industry, this will be a great Summer read.
Untamed is sort of a mix between inspiring memoir and self-help book. It unpacks what I means to be a women today. Not to mention has the most “instagram-worthy” cover of the Summer.

I read Untamed for my book club at the start of summer, and I LOVED it! I’m definitely not a memoir person, but I thought her lessons were super powerful and the chapters were short enough to keep me engaged. Thanks for the other recommendations!
