I am a podcast NUT. I listen to podcasts every single day before and after work and they truly make my commute so much better. I used to listen to political podcasts before work but with the current administration, I found myself sitting down at my desk after listening to the New York Time’s podcast and start crying.
SO I changed up what I was listening to every morning to podcasts that are inspiring and feature, strong women who deliver tangible takeaways that set me up for a great day. It has made all of the difference in how I start my day!
The Skinny Confidential – Him and Her Podcast
I have a slight obsession with Lauren and her husband Michael – guilty! Their podcast features interviews from best-selling authors, to female founders, to legal sex workers (I know quite the array). But it’s all about how to be the best version of yourself, no matter what career path you choose. They give truly tangible life tips on productivity, time management and health/wellness. Plus I love their banter and will find myself laughing out loud.
I have been a long time reader of The Skimm, which is basically a concise newsletter that tells you everything you need to know for the day (politics, news, business). So when the founders turned their focus toward a podcast, I was all ears! They focus on interviewing female founders and women they look up to in the industry. These interviews focus on the journey of how highly successful women, such as award-winning journalist Ann Curry or the president of Planned Parenthood, have made their way to the top of their discipline. They dig deep into their lives and ask the hard questions like “how can you balance (though they hate using that word) being a mother of 2 and also working a full-time job and also being a good wife and yada” and the answers are surprisingly real and relatable.
Girlboss Radio is hosted by Nasty Gal founder, Sophia Amoruso. She started the podcast in the wake of filing for bankruptcy and it is really founded in the notion that it takes failure to find your true journey. It explores the wins, losses and insights learned on the winding roads of success. It’s a great resource to discover emerging fashion, lifestyle, tech and media brands and uncovers the women behind what makes them tick.
Ok so this isn’t as “Inspirational” as the others I suggested but if you are a Bravo fan and want to LOL on your way to work to get those endorphins really cranking, this is your podcast to listen to. The gals dive into everything Real Housewives/Below Deck/Southern Charm and truly spill the tea. It’s a great way to just zone out and get in a great mood before you start stressing at your desk.
And last but certainly not least – COURT and KYLE’S NEW PODCAST! It is packed with all things relationships and they interview some of our great friends in NYC who really dive into various types of love and dating. I am so proud of them for starting this up and the interviews are really fun to listen to!
