It’s a tough time right now. From the stress of the unknown, to dealing with the fall out of the pandemic, it’s really easy to feel the weight of the world on your shoulders. Personally, I have waves of anxiety that change day over day and I have just been extremely careful with monitoring it and doing what I can to keep myself in a good headspace. So far, I feel like I have gotten in a really great routine and want to share the things that have helped me stay positive through this whole thing. Personally, I love to be busy and I love a set schedule. So packing my calendar with activities has been a necessity for me.
Look, I hear everyone’s feedback on how people being active and “reinventing” themselves during this down time is anxiety inducing in and of itself. But I am just telling you all my experience and what has worked for me – take it or leave it!
Simulate Your Commute Every Morning
This is the most simple thing I have implemented in my day that has made such a huge difference for me. Previously, I was getting out of bed and going straight to my computer to start working. Not having that critical time in between started off my day on the wrong foot. I have learned that I love that 30-40 minutes in the car to listen to my podcast, think through my schedule for the day and just get me in the right headspace. Instead of my drive, I have been walking around the block in loops for the same amount of time it would take for my usual commute to work!
Sign Up for a Class
Both Court and I have enrolled in some online courses that we have really been enjoying. When are you ever going to have the time to do this again? I am currently taking Yale’s “The Science of Well-Being” which is designed as a 10 week course but you can speed it up or not based on your own pace! This is one of Yale’s most popular classes and they are currently offering it for free which is amazing! Court has been taking some photoshop courses that Brit + Co is offering! They have a ton of creative classes – use the code SELFCARE to get the class for free!
Take a Free Workout
I am sure by now you have seen that everyone is now a workout influencer? I mean HELLO endorphins make you happy, so keep moving people! Even if it’s as simple as walking around the block, just get moving. Right now, there are so many brands offering free workout classes. Here are a few I have been trying! ObeFitness (use code ATHOME for 30 day free trial), Barre3 (barre class with 15 day free trial), Dance Body (7 day free trial) and Alo Moves (14 day free trial)!
Get In Touch with Your Younger You
Look, it sounds cheesy, I get it. But think about it. What are the things that you used to do when you were younger that made you really happy? For me, it’s basically anything creative or performing. I have been singing A TON, painting and relearning Shakespeare monologues (lol don’t judge). Some say to find your true passion, just think of what made you happy when you were little and start doing it again. These things bring me SO much joy in my day.
Read a Book
I know it sounds crazy, right? I buy books all of the time with the intention of reading them and honestly I just never get around to it. Without the allure of heading out to dinner or meeting up with friends, I now have time to pick up the book I intended to read for the last year. On my list right now, Outliers, The Artists Way and Open Book: Jessica Simpson.
