As i’m sure you know by now, I recently moved into an apartment in DC! During the pandemic, I was month to month in my apartment in West Hollywood and decided to move my stuff intro storage so I didnt have to keep paying rent. I lived with my mom in Alexandria, Virginia for about 6 months but decided that it was really important for me to try out living alone. I have never lived alone before and wanted to see if I was going to like it (would I feel safe, too much alone time, etc.) As luck would have it, my sister bought a home in northern Virginia a few months ago, so I was able to move into her apartment in Dupont Circle. Even though I grew up outside of the DC area, I haven’t actually spent that much time here in my adult life.
I was really, really hesitant to move into the city because I didn’t want to get all new furniture just for a few months of living there. I came across Inhabitr, a furniture rental company on Instagram and decided to rent furniture for a few months. When you think of furniture rental you imagine old, bulky, dated furniture. Not Inhabitr. They offer really chic designer pieces for a super affordable price. Plus, you can determine exactly how many months you need the furniture for, so there is a ton of flexibility! I sent some images and square footage of the apartment and worked with one of their designers who created a mood board for me and picked out all of my furniture.
It was so, so easy. The team delivered and assembled all of my furniture in one hour and I didn’t have to lift a finger! I absolutely LOVE the way it came out! Especially during a time like this where there is so much up in the air, renting furniture (as opposed to buying it outright) made moving so, so much easier. I seriously cannot recommend them more! A few people asked me on Instagram about purchasing the furniture after the lease ends. The answer is YES! Inhabitr offers a lease-to-own option in which they credit back the majority of the rent you pay towards the purchase of your furniture. I have my eye on the velvet green chair in my living room, so I may be doing that at the end of my lease!
