As you guys know from all of my stories on Instagram, I love to organize. A couple of years ago, I walked upstairs into my mom’s beautiful closet room to go steal some of her socks (as per usual, who packs socks?). I looked to my left towards her vanity and was aghast to see all of her beautiful jewelry in a giant toolbox. Literally….a toolbox. I was shocked, disgusted even! Who was this women?! (lol) I took it upon myself, like the great daughter that I am, to revamp her jewelry organization system. If you guys remember from an older post about my tips to organize your jewelry, jewelry is such a great way to actually decorate your space. So updating the vessels in which it is organized, is a must. If you walk into your space and love the way your accessories and makeup are placed, then you are actually going to use them instead of looking at them with dread as you walk past your metaphorical (or literal) toolbox.
Picking the Right Organizers
I love organization systems and boxes where I can actually see all of my jewelry because it’s easier to visualize when putting outfits together. I go for boxes that are clear or are standalone so everything is right in front of my eyes. And the best part?! You do NOT have to break the bank for this to look elevated. I did my mom’s entire jewelry organization well under $100.
Build Up
Just because you don’t have a lot of space does not mean you can’t organize. Take it from someone who has always lived in small spaces, it’s really important to get organizers that can be stacked and moved around easily. If you are working with a vertical space, make sure the bottom of your containers are all flat so you are able to easily stack if needed and you can continue to build up should you acquire more jewelry (!!) over time.
Organize by Category
This may seem pretty intuitive, but it’s so important to organize your jewelry by category. You can even take it a step further and organize the category by type. For example, all necklaces go with necklaces. Within the necklace category, all pearl necklaces (type) go together and all chains (type) go together. That way you know exactly where you need to look when pulling your look together.
Add Personalized Elements
Whether you collect crystals or love your stationary, add a little personalized element to your set-up to give it a little flair! We used to collect small boxes and gift them to my mom for her birthday and she has kept all of them through the years. I added some of those little boxes onto the table to give it a nice personalized touch!
