We are living in the age of digital and social – whether we like it or not. Social media can be such a useful tool for free marketing and a great way to express yourself creatively if used correctly. It’s truly amazing how much our blog has grown since we started utilizing Instagram because it is such a great way to connect with followers. We have only been on Instagram for about a year (I know we were really late to the game) and have already grown a large and engaged community. Whether you are looking to launch a blog, small business or just build a personal account, Instagram is such a great tool to connect with people and act as a digital extension of your brand. So here are some of our tricks to growing your own Instagram!
Engage, engage, engage!
I cannot stress this enough! Engaging with your audience or potential followers is the best way to build an active, real community for your page. I usually set aside at least one hour everyday (usually before I go to bed) to comment, like and follow accounts.
Utilize Hashtags
Determine what your brand is promoting and what your potential audience will be searching. Do your research to find out what other (successful) accounts similar to your own are hashtagging and use them! I generally create notes in my phone with all of my hashtags and then just copy and paste when it comes time to insta!
Collaborate with Accounts
Partnering up with accounts that are similar to your own is a great way to introduce each other to new followers. In the past we have done “shout outs” with accounts that have a similar audience but are located in a different region in order to gain new followers that would be interested in our content but just haven’t organically stumbled on our account yet.
Giveaways and Contests
Participating in giveaways and contests is a great way to gain followers quickly. This might require some initial investment but it will absolutely pay off in growing your account. You will notice that accounts will follow you just for the giveaway and then unfollow when it is over, so it is important to partake in giveaways that your organic following would be interested in (i.e. if you are a fashion account, giveaway a bag, if you are a food account, giveaway a gift card to a restaurant).
Quality vs. Quantity
So this might seem pretty obvious but posting quality content that you genuinely believe in and support is a huge factor in creating an engaged account. Of course it is important to post regularly to keep your audience updated but do not post just because you haven’t posted in a couple hours. Posting for a purpose is key here. Posting hi-res images, planning out your schedule and really letting your followers get to know you or your brand is vital to creating an engaged community.
