So Kelly mentioned today that it is pretty crazy the amount of times we get asked how or why our blog started. Well to be honest we started this adventure about 3.5 years ago!! So wild to look back on what we were doing then and how absolutely clueless we were. It took us about two years to even realize we needed an Instagram page, if that tells you anything. Basically we have grown up a lot since our college blogging days.
All in all we started M&M as we were both interning in the fashion industry at the time. I was posting pictures literally everyday about my summer in New York, and Kelly and I thought about it and decided why not just congregate this all onto one page or website. Cue next question: Where did the name Mimosas and Manhattan come from? I wish I could give you all an exciting story but it literally came about because we were drinking bottomless mimosas while in Manhattan one Sunday afternoon. What reckless souls we were in 19 & 20 year old stages.
We often look back at our first summer as New Yorker’s and mostly laugh but smile because we were doing the blog then for absolutely nothing in return/no recognition/no following. We would trek around subway stops with our pink digital camera and click away while editing everything on iPhoto. But we were passionate and loved every second of it. I began to teach myself the basics of coding and graphic design as well as SEO and Google analytic’s. We taught ourselves just about everything as all bloggers do. In many ways we look back at those first two years with pride that we never gave up and solitude in our Google analytic’s number today. This industry is all about heart and if you have it, never let it die.
ALERT:: THIS JUMPSUIT IS AMAZING! I seriously feel like I am wearing a piece of art that was painted on my body (jk but for real) if you are in the NYC area Chroma NYC is having a pop up store in Soho from April 9th to May 1st on 120 Thompson Street. Even if you aren’t interested in purchasing anything please stop by for the colors/patterns and true works of art they design into their clothing.
