So it’s your first New York Fashion Week? Welcome to the most exhausting yet exhilarating week of the year. I’m going on season numero 3 and boy have I learned my fair share of tricks along the way. For all of the NYFW newbies or even if you are just trying to do fashion week smarter tha last season, I have rounded up my tricks and lessons I have learned along the way!
Utilize Your Social Platforms
Publicists or designers not being receptive via email? Not to worry – chances are their inboxes are looking a bit more overcrowded than usual. Take to your Instagram to try and get in touch and make a “softer” introduction. Follow and engage with all of the brands and pr agencies prior to the shows so they know you exist. For us “social media influencers,” Instagram is your portfolio, so engage with so keep your eye out for “DM” invites to the shows.
Unofficial Shows and Presentations
If you are still relatively new and don’t have a full day of the official shows scheduled, not to worry! There are plenty of events and unofficial shows you can attend to still be fully integrated into the week. Style Fashion Week occurs simultaneously and hosts well-known designers such as Malan Breton and can be easier to get that invite. Even if a designer is not officially showing, they will still come to New York and host press events and presentations in order to have a presence at fashion week. Again, do your research and check out NYFW guides with free events like amNew York and Time Out New York.
Can’t get the invite to the show or just can’t make it? Don’t fret. Go to the after-party. Most of the shows have designated after parties on the same day of the designer’s presentation. The after-parties are just as important as the shows as this is where some serious networking can take place with designers, photographers, editors and industry people.

You girls are such pros! You're so lucky to have each other to go to events with…I tend to drag my husband (planning to do that again this weekend). Sometimes he is game, other times I think he hates me for it! 😛
