So if you have been following along you know that we have quite a few changes in the works right now. My announcement is…that i’m moving to LA! I know, it’s crazy. Courtney and I (with the MAJOR cinematic genius of @Coastal_Flicks) put together this YouTube video to answer all of your questions that you may have!
But for some more info…here is some more background.
As most of you know, Courtney and I spent our summers in Santa Monica (that’s where are moms are from) and I fell in love with LA at an early age. I remember when I was growing up, I would turn to my mom and say “I know I will live here one day”(even in the middle of an LA traffic jam – that’s when you know it’s love). After I graduated college, I decided to move to New York because I didn’t want to be so far away from my family but I always had LA in the back of my mind. My goal was to find an agency that was bi-coastal, so I could potentially move to LA with an agency at some point when I was ready. I ended up getting a job pretty quickly but after a few agency shifts and some very low-lows of working with not ideal human beings, I decided I needed to take a break, blog full-time and reevaluate to really figure out what I was looking for.
As you all know, I then found Small Girls PR and have been with this agency for about two years. I love it. I really never thought I would find a place where I loved working because I really had to sift through some “bad apples” to find out what worked for me. This agency has helped my grow in my role, in the company and within the industry as a whole. Which is why about a month ago when the opportunity presented itself to move to LA and continue to grow in my career – I jumped at it!
Truthfully, I felt like it was time for a change earlier this year but I just couldn’t put my finger on what it was. I was in a rut, I looked exhausted and I just couldn’t figure out what wasn’t working in my life. One morning I woke up (I think it was March) and it was snowing outside. I was SO over the cold and seriously thought winter was over…and then it snowed again…and I started crying. I think that was the moment when I was like “I think maybe I need a change of scenery.”
I love New York. I think working in this fastpassed industry in this amazing city has truly made me become one of the best workers I can be. New York has taught me so many things – how to be the best at your job to stand out, how to (and not to) treat people, how to network, how to get ahead – so many things. New York is where I became an adult. It’s where I became someone I am proud to be today. And with Courtney, New York is where we made mimosas…who would have thunk that 5 years later we would be living together in an apartment that was made possible because of the success of Mimosas and Manhattan – a fun idea we came up with in my Craigslist apartment on the Upper West Side.
I am looking forward to building my network in LA like we have done in NY, make new friends, experience new adventures, be warm, be outside, etc. Courtney and I are excited to show our lives on different coasts in one feed. We want to show that change and growth are not things to be scared of but something to embrace, even if can be a bit scary at times!
I am going to miss New York. Miss all of the amazing friends I have made. Miss being apart from Courtney. I am in LA for a couple weeks right now and I already am starting to miss her – it will be a transition for sure but an adventure I am ready for.
My move to Los Angeles is such an exciting time in my life and I am so excited to share that move and this transition with you all! To all my LA babes – DM me because this girl is gonna need some gal (and male) pales 🙂
