New York Fashion Week
is among us with shows starting next Wednesday, February 10th and
going till Thursday, February 18th. But for so many “newby” fashion
bloggers out there, NYFW can be quite a beast to undertake. Unless you are one
of the bigger bloggers, invites to the shows can be harder to organically come
by because let’s face it, there are a lot of us. We have been receiving a lot of questions from
bloggers lately about our tips to NYFW so we wanted to round up everything for
you all! So here it is, our newbies
guide to NYFW.

Getting Into the Shows
Since the world of fashion blogging is quite saturated, it is important
to make yourself known to the people, agencies and designers who are running
the shows. First things first, the holy grail of NYFW is the official schedule. This will be
your reference to the shows, events and presentations throughout the week. Next,
do some research to see who their press contact is – whether it is their agency
of record or in-house pr contact, shoot them an email with your media kit, boiler
plate and an invite request to the show.
Also – utilize Instagram! For us “social media influencers,” Instagram
is your portfolio, so engage with designers and PR agencies and keep your eye
out for “DM” invites to the shows.

The After-Parties
Can’t get the invite to the show or just can’t make it? Don’t fret. Go
to the after-party. Most of the shows have designated after parties on the same
day of the designer’s presentation. The after-parties
are just as important as the shows as this is where some serious networking can
take place with designers, photographers, editors and people in the industry.

Presentations and Events
Even if a designer is not officially showing, they will still come to
New York and host press events and presentations in order to have a presence at
fashion week. Again, do your research and check out NYFW guides like these 2015

Getting the Perfect Shot
It’s important for bloggers to have a presence at fashion week and to
start being seen and photographed by street style photographers. So here is a
shameless tip that yes, I have done before – walk in front of the venues at the
start and end time of the show even if you aren’t actually attending. Street
photographers are lined up in front of the venues waiting to take that perfect
shot, so put on that killer outfit, walk with some confidence and work that
paparazzi-like moment. Last year I did this and one of the photos ended up in Aol Fashion’s “Best Street Style Looks!”

Connecting, Connecting, Connecting
The most influential fashion bloggers and photographers will be here
during the week. Don’t miss your
opportunity to connect with some of your favs – shoot them an email and offer
to take them out for a coffee. The worst they can say is they are too busy and
after all, they were “newbies” once too.

No More Zzzzzz’s
And my final piece of
advice, tiered is not an excuse during fashion week. Go to as much as you can,
talk to as many people as possible and share every moment on social! Who knows what will happen!

Definitely true about not being tired ladies. Everyone is dog eyed and exhausted during fashion week, doubly so for those that have to travel to London right after. It’s one ongoing party with no time for rest, so we always try to make the best of our downtime, when traveling too / between events on the train or by taxi. We use that time to send followup emails, check messages on social, concoct blog ideas or even do a little cyber-stalking to find persons we’d love to speak with.
