Breaking up with a boyfriend sucks, breaking up with your boyfriend while in New York sucks 15x more. New York City has a weird way of making you feel extra alone even when you are surrounded by thousands of people. When New York City is an aspect in your relationship, you aren’t just dating your significant other, you are dating New York, and when that other person is gone, you are left with just New York and with the arduous task of rebuilding and salvaging that relationship. My roommate and I have been going through some pretty rough break-ups so naturally, we have been bonding over bottle(s) of red wine and playing melodramatic music while shedding a tear or two…or at least until The Real Housewives comes back on (I know it’s cliche but it makes us feel good, so stop judging). Recently, we were sitting in our kitchen writing letters to our long lost bf’s, letters that would have been better-off as forgotten memorabilia left under the bed than actually in the hands of the United States Postal Service. To get the dramatic juices flowing and the tears really cranking, we started playing songs that perfectly epitomized break-ups in New York that while overtly depressing, somehow made us feel a whole lot better. Where on where are you tonight? Why did you leave me here all alone? I searched the world over and thought I'd found true love, you met another and blllip you was gone.
Hell, why rebuild and salvage? FIDO!
Brooklyn Baby by Lana is one of my favorites!
I love this post and I love that you and your roommate are so cute (but not that you guys are having to go through these break ups). These songs have definitely been on my playlist once or twice before. xox, Erin – http://www.stylebythepeople.com

You got this girl! Though NYC can make anyone feel alone (been there done that) it can also have you feeling on top of the world. You'll get through this with grace!
