The 10 Guys You Will Meet In NYC

Courtney and I began our NYC adventures in 2013 when we started our first internships.   Aside from working full-time, starting our blog, making friends and attending events, we have managed to somehow date almost every type of guy NYC has to offer. From the Clubgoers to the curveballs, we have rounded up the 10 type of guys you are destined to date if you move to NYC.

The Energizer Bunny
There is no doubt at one point during your time in New York that you will meet the so called “energizer bunny.” The guy that wants to do and see everything NEW YORK. He may even ask you on your first date to go to see Wicked on Broadway… I’m sorry did I hear that right?  You will politely decline and think “can’t you be a normal guy and just ask me out for cranberry vodka’s and try to make out with me in the dusty corner of a dirty LES bar?” However that is not how this ball of energy works. You will date for awhile then you will become tired. Because there is really only 1 special girl that can keep up with going to Six Flags in New Jersey and then straight to apple picking in every damn orchard in Upstate New York.

Upper East Side Ass Hole
This gem of a man. So there will come a time when this city has just really worn  you down and you unfortunately fall for the god forsaken Upper East Side A-Hole. Damnit. He will flirt with you at the bar and never call you back. He will ask to come over at 3am then not talk to you for weeks. He will meet your friends and they will all hate him. But for some god forsaken reason, you are drawn more and more to him. Until you find yourself dodging cars outside of Beauty & Essex one night calling him for 86th time…then find out that him “being out of town” actually means his girlfriend of three years is visiting for the weekend. Chalk that one up to a loss. SIDE NOTE: 7 months later you will proudly be on the receiving end of HIS 86th call.

First City Love
We all have him. The first guy you ever fall for in New York City. Where every date seems more magical than the last. Every second with him seems like you are meant to be. Not because you actually ARE, mostly just because you are really falling in love with this city. But we all get tripped up here and make ourselves believe what we won’t actually see. When in reality every date just seems magical because you are used to the Applebee’s 2 for 1 deal in the Midwest. Always know this city does indeed get the best of us every now and then.

Mr. Finance
When you are young, naïve and scared out of your mind for not living off your parents anymore, you will no doubt find yourself attracted to people who could make your life, well, a little more stable. Sure they may have a huge penthouse overlooking Central Park but when their apartment is a mess and their mattress is on the floor sans bedframe, there should be immediate red flags.  There is probably a reason that the good looking VP of a Fortune 500 company is still single and dating a 22 year old girl….  Just saying.
The Nice One
This is the one that is just a good one. He lives close by, he’ll hangout whenever you want and is overall just a nice human. You may not want him to get down on one knee anytime soon but hey, he’s always down to go on dates and not bad to look at.
  The Smooth Guy
You know this one – he’s just too smooth for his own good.  He’s mysterious enough where you always want to know what he’s thinking (*crosses fingers* please be thinking about me) but firm enough to act as the leader of the pack. You’ll fall a little too hard until you realize that the smoothness has worked on just about every one in your girl gang…try to figure this one out soother rather than later.
The Club Jew
So picture this. You are sweaty, hot and dancing way to close to overly-tanned 40-year-olds at Marquee. When out of nowhere a tall, hot Jewish man invites you to his table. Done deal. You are now drinking Grey Goose by the bottle and dancing the night away from all the peasants below you. The allure is SO STRONG. You are in with the club crowd and will never have to buy a drink again. This will hands down be the most fun relationship of your life.. so enjoy it before you force yourself into severe liver damage and loss of hearing.

The Roommate
You always
want to hang with your best friend, so naturally when they are dating a
guy, the only way to stay in the picture is to date their
roommate…even if they have the personality of a log. Whether it’s a
24-hour love affair or months-long romance, you will no doubt find
yourself next to your bff in the kitchen the next morning. The roommate
can stay in his room for all you care.
The Freelancer
You are destined to date a Freelancer who either writes for Vice, photographs food or designs “shit on the internet” for a living. They are creative, always know about the best underground parties and probably run some type of podcast in the basement of a bike shop in Brooklyn. Dating a Freelancer rules…well until the check comes and your forced to split a bottle of wine that’s already 50% off.
The Score
You know, the one that is just the total package. The diamond in the rough that you can’t search for but for some reason shows up on your door step…quite literally.  When I (Courtney) met Kelly’s friend, Kyle for the first time (in my opinion but fifth time in his…oops alcohol) I was no makeup, in my PJs, asking why the hell it was so loud in the living room. I can’t tell you or explain the next few hours but I just knew. I split second changed into “self-proclaimed going out clothes” and went to Union Pool in BK which is also the 2nd douchiest bar in all of New York FOR THE RECORD. We talked, I spilled beer all over myself…and tequila…and wine. He told me to take “a lap” to calm down. I obliged. I called Kelly at 3am and was like “WTF WHY HAVE YOU BEEN HIDING THIS MAN FROM ME FOR SO LONG?” We started dating 2 months later. It has been the easiest most seamless relationship of my life. Kyle is my best friend and I couldn’t imagine life without him. My biggest piece of dating advice is.. if you EVER question it, it isn’t right. You will know. I promise.

So, now that you know about all of the guys in New York, go out there and get to work. It takes quite a few trial runs to find the one that is actually worth it.
