WHERE TO BEGIN! It has been such a whirlwind & it is so crazy to think I AM ENGAGED! For those that are new here Kyle and I met 5 years ago in Brooklyn via Kelly! Kelly had moved to NYC a year before me and was introduced to Kyle through mutual Virginia & Virginia Tech friends. When I moved to NYC back in the Fall of 2015, I was single, just out of a college break up, and so excited to meet all of Kelly’s cute guy friends (lol). Kyle & I met a few times but the timing was always ROUGH and it wasn’t until the 5th meeting (lol, again) that we really hit it off. We were at Union Pool in Williamsburg, BK (my favorite bar at the time), he bought me the classic Tecate & Tequila shot (Union Pools best drink deal) and the rest was history!! We have been together for the past 5 years & have lived together the past 2.5. It is hard to put these past years into words, but I truly feel like the luckiest girl in the whole world.
NOW ONTO THE PROPOSAL….
It was the morning of 12/17/2020 and Kelly had arrived from DC via train earlier on the evening of 12/16! Kelly was in town for this “big campaign we had with Lex (@lexiconofstyle)” along with other holiday work projects we needed to get done! I was so excited to have her back in NYC and to be so productive. The morning started out pretty normal when she’s in town – tons of shooting and getting work done! We had shot a few other holiday campaigns with our fave photog Allie Provost and Allie mentioned to me she was heading to the Hamptons that night. This was important because I had always told Kyle that I wanted Allie to shoot our engagement if possible!
After shooting video & photo content – Lex had texted us said she was heading to The William Vale (beautiful hotel in Brooklyn) to set up for this big campaign shoot we had with Nivea! All of this seemed normal to me because I had seen the Nivea creative brief, signed the contract and even planned out a color coordinated mood board for the shoot. After Lex texted us, I even facetimed her to make sure that my outfit worked with what she had in mind and we all would coordinate well!
Kyle left in sweatpants and told me he was going to donate plasma (which was also super normal because he has done this 5 times now – he has the COVID antibodies). Once we got ready (Kelly was acting super chill which is so crazy in hindsight) Kelly helped with my makeup and finishing touches on my outfit! Again – this is all normal because I am horrible at doing my makeup and Kelly is so talented! Kelly grabbed an Uber to the William Wale and we were off!
Now on the way to the hotel I did start to feel like something was off and YES I DID START TO GET MY HOPES UP THAT SOMETHING WAS GOING TO HAPPEN! However I was still SUPER confused because in my head I believed this whole Nivea shoot was real! So the whole Uber I just kept going over how he would propose (if it was happening) would it be before we shot the campaign, after we shot the campaign, during the campaign?
When we arrived to the William Vale, Lex met us in the lobby and said her sister was upstairs (who was supposed to be shooting the Nivea campaign). We headed up to the 16th floor to the most amazing views of the city. We opened the door to a private corner room with this beautiful view of New York City and I saw Kyle. To be honest I blacked out a bit here. It’s hard to put into words how much happiness, love, shock is running through your body. I looked to the corner and saw Allie (photographer) clicking away and was like WAIT WHY AREN’T YOU IN THE HAMPTONS!! She laughed and I looked back at Kyle, he grabbed my hand and we walked outside.
At this point I was shaking. I was so so happy and just couldn’t believe it! My favorite moment of the proposal was that Kyle noticed this and took me aside and we talked for a few minutes. It was such a private beautiful moment where Kyle told me how much the past 5 years have meant to him. I will remember that conversation for the rest of my life. The reason I was so happy it happened was because so many brides had told me that they don’t remember what their boyfriends said when they got down on one knee, because it was so shocking. I was able to live in that moment of us because we took a moment to each other. I looked at Kyle, looked at the skyline of New York City, took a mental photograph & then he got down on one knee!
I SAID YES. & we took so many beautiful photos! Kelly & Lex popped out with champagne and we cheers’d and cried! Then I looked at them and said “WHEN ARE WE SHOOTING NIVEA?!” They both laughed and said ITS ALL FAKE! I couldn’t believe it! THEY TRULY FOOLED ME! Not only was the PR agency in on it, but ASOS (where my dress is from) was in on it, Allie was in on it and the hotel! I couldn’t believe the lengths Kyle, Lex & Kelly went to make this proposal so perfect.

It was truly everything I ever wanted and it couldn’t have been more perfect. It is still hard to put it all into words!
After we took photos and celebrated we were able to FaceTime our family and friends then Kyle took us to our friend’s beautiful Brooklyn apartment where our NYC family was waiting! They all jumped out and it was such an amazing surprise! That night we stayed in the same beautiful room he proposed and I woke up thinking it was all a dream.
