Coming home to the suburbs of DC from the fabulous, glitzy and fashion-forward streets of Manhattan has been a tremendous transition. While the back drops have changed and the pictures have altered, my style has remained the same. One thing that has hit me like a ton of high-heels since I have returned home, is that the fashion is much more conservative than that of the racy cutouts, vibrant colors and body-con outfits ubiquitous on the NYC streets. These fashions, as you can imagine, are not fully embraced in the suit-clad capital of the nation.
My advice for adapting to this fashion transition, is to TWEEK but never change your style. In New York, I would have swapped this animal print blouse for a lace crop top. Because of the conservative culture of DC however, I tweeked my outfit, and opted for this blouse (still embracing my wild side) instead of the skin-barring crop. So here it is: never completely alter your style because of your surroundings. You want to stand out, but not in a bad way. Alter your outfit slightly for appropriateness but never abandon your own style or surrender to the pressures of peer fashion. Tweek your look but never transform!

Thank you so much! The purse really made the whole outfit pop!
Really like how you focused on staying true to your style but updating it in certain situations. Such great advice!
