Times can be uncertain and scary right now, so we wanted to share a few ways you can donate to help! I know it can also be hard for many to donate money at a time like this. So if you are unable to donate monetarily here are a few other ways you can help! Fostering a dog (Kyle and I signed up to do this via Muddy Paws Rescue in NYC), offer to help the elderly in your neighborhood by picking up groceries for them, social distancing if you haven’t yet, start a virtual book club with friends, giving your single friends who may be quarantined alone a call! If you have any other ideas please feel free to reach out!!
In terms of monetary donations – Please see below for a few causes that are great to donate to during this time.
1: Change for Kids – This is a non profit that I am personally involved in here in New York City! The organization has come a long way since it was founded – what began as a grassroots movement to meet the basic needs of New York City’s youth has transformed into a full-service youth development organization partnering with 13 schools and 5,000 children across all five boroughs of NYC each year. At CFK, we are keeping the focus on our students during this pandemic and appreciate your support. While COVID-19 may cause disruptions to your daily life, if COVID-19 causes school closures, many of our students will face days home alone, learning gaps, and possible food shortages. Your support helps Change for Kids create opportunities for kids across NYC. Together, we can show young people what’s possible for their futures, and how we stick by their side during trying times. I have a personal fundraising page that you can donate directly to!!
2: B.Strong Created by Bethenny Frankel – Due to the lack of sanitation products in US market places today, #BStrong is working with the Global Empowerment Mission to create and disperse #coronakits. These kits will consist of a tote bag with sanitation wipes, gloves, SOS Hydration and the medical community’s recommendations. These #coronakits will be distributed in various cities throughout United States. Not everyone has funds or access to these products right now so we will focus distribution in low income communities.
3: Jersey City Strong! – This Go Fund Me was created by our friend & team at GREY LAYERS! Team GREYLAYERS has set up this GoFundMe to ask for the support from everyone that would be able to donate what they can to help these people with no income coming in due to this global economic crisis that the pandemic has circulated. They are raising funds to cover people’s first paychecks in hopes for a success and be able to continue this project for weeks to come. Jersey City is an incredibly resilient city full of the most talented people, most of whom get paid hourly, many without paid time off and majority have families to provide for with no means of income in the next coming weeks. Providing a little extra assistance can make things a little easier for the community.
4: Rally for Restaurants – The restaurant community is being rocked by a dramatic decline in sales and could quickly run short of cash to support day-to-day operations and staff wages. In many cities, restaurant sales are down as much as 50% as a result of COVID-19. That’s putting hard-working owners, operators, staff, delivery drivers, farmers, and just about everyone in the food industry at risk. That’s why, on behalf of restaurants across the country, we’re asking you to pay it forward. Contribute what you can today by buying gift cards from your favorite restaurants now so they can count on that income later.
5: Keep Artists Performing – In support of the music industry they have put together this series of in-studio broadcasts to continue serving & promoting the artist community/supporting the venues they partner with, while keeping the studio staff working. They’ve set up this GoFundMe page (linked above), which will help cover the costs of hosting these broadcasts, allowing fans to continue supporting both the artists in our community, as well as IFMG & The Hotel Cafe (a percentage of all fund’s raised with go to The Hotel Cafe, as they have had to shut down for the rest of March). They have made plans to throw 4 broadcast shows in the next 30 days. There will be 8 slots available for artists to perform each show. That’s 32 songwriters, in studio performing with no audiences, broadcasted over the next 30 days!
We will be doing our best to keep this page updated with charities to support! Please DM us on Instagram if you have anything you would like us to add.
