One of my favorite topics in the whole world… BINGE WORTHY TELEVISION. Right now a lot of us are taking this quarantine to reset and catch up on things we wouldn’t normally. That could range anywhere from podcasts, to working out, to catching up on your TV shows. I have been a bit in and out on television, as I am really concentrating on spending time and being present with family right now. However when I am back in NYC I know I am going to need to get back on my shows!
Although it has been sparse, I have found a few days these past two months to really sit and binge. Check out my list below and please send recommendations our way! 🙂
NETFLIX: Dead to Me and Too Hot Too Handle.
I watched Dead to Me in one day while working on our Mimosas and Manhattan tumblers. It is just SO good. The perfect amount of dark and comedy. The chemistry of Christine Applegate and Linda Cardellini are a match made in scripted television history! A match that we never knew we needed. If you need a good laugh (but also some serious undertones including grief, death, abuse) this is the show for you.
Kyle & I also recently finished Too Hot Too Handle! I have to admit the first episode was wild and pretty DUMB. However we stuck with it and it really got good. I loved how kind the cast was… honestly it may be the nicest group of reality stars I’ve ever seen. You get sucked into the real, genuine connections they are making and how they are changing for the better. Desiree Burch hosts and she is hilarious (she was my mom’s favorite part of the show…. however I do not suggest watching this with your mom lol). It is nice having a host that also recognizes the stupidity in it all and we can all laugh together!
HULU: Little Fires Everywhere
I did not read the book however I really loved the show! I thought Kerry Washington and Reese Witherspoon had great chemistry and worked well on screen together. I also loved how much you really start to hate Reese’s character. I mean by the end of it I was screaming at the TV!! It is definitely a show that makes you think about motherhood, being a parent, giving up a potential dream, and the pressure of being a teenager. After I finished the show I sat outside and just drank wine and thought!!
BRAVO: NYC Prep & Season 1 of Southern Charm
NYC Prep came out in 2009 but recently resurfaced in the Bravo-sphere, as they ran a throwback marathon a few weeks back. I did not watch the show when it came out in 2009, but boy I WISH I DID. The show follows around different high schoolers in the NYC Prep School scene (Very real life Gossip Girl. Which I think is what they were going for here.). The show ended up getting terrible ratings (13% on Rotten Tomatoes) and not signed for a second season.. however watching it now as an NYC resident and 27 years old, makes me GIGGLE. It is the perfect light hearted show and gives me so much nostalgia to being a 17 year old and the silly things we used to care about.
Kelly is the one who recommended to me to watch Season 1 of Southern Charm! With all the shake ups currently happening with the cast (Chelsea, Cam and Naomi leaving), it would definitely be fun to revisit the first season group. She told me it is WILD how different that first season was compared to now. Which is very similar to Vanderpump Rules now vs then!
CABLE TV: The Voice & The Bachelor’s Listen To Your Heart
My dad actually got us super hooked on this season of The Voice! In the past I have watched random episodes here and there but never sat and watched a complete season. I was recently flipping channels and came across the first episode of this season and was HOOKED. In one day Kyle and I watched 9 episodes (9 hours) and got completely sucked in. Due to COVID it is tough as they now have to do all live rounds from inside their homes but they have such incredible talent that it is still SO FUN TO WATCH. I highly recommend if you are looking for something to do on a Sunday!
Now onto The Bachelor’s Listen To Your Heart…. to be completely honest I have no idea why I love this show so much! I haven’t even sat and watched a complete season of The Bachelor since I was in college! I believe what sucked me in was that Kyle’s company FanDuel (sports betting company) was offering a free betting game on the show and then I was hooked into that aspect of it! Overall though, they actually did a great job in finding talented singers! Rudi’s voice is incredible and I wish it wasn’t a partner oriented competition or she would run away with the prize FOR SURE. Her voice is honestly just as good, if not better than those on The Voice! The finale is tonight and I am so, so excited! If you haven’t been watching, all the episodes are available on the ABC app.
Julia was also the perfect reality show villain….
