Happy Monday! First off I would like to thank everyone for the amazing support they have shown Kyle & I’s podcast, Relationships Uncensored, post-first episode! We have been so overwhelmed and it only motivates us to continue creating and coming up with more content. For those that did not get a chance to listen to the first episode, I am going to break down the who, when, where, WHY & HOW behind starting it!
WHO: Kyle and I will be bringing on guests each week to discuss the relationships they have in their lives and how they impact their careers, lifestyle and overall way of life. Something really important to us about this podcast is bringing on people from all different backgrounds – LGBTQ, straight, engaged, married, divorced, etc. Therefor each episode can bring a different perspective and uniqueness.
WHEN: Our goal is to have a new episode out every Thursday! (I know on our first episode we said Tuesday’s but we feel Thursday’s will work better for us.)
WHERE: Currently we want to focus on NYC but we hope to expand into LA as we get bigger. 🙂
WHY: I came up with the idea when I was home in Cincinnati back in April. I was actually trying to take a nap, but my mind kept racing with different ideas on something I could do outside the Instagram/Blog world. It finally drifted over to podcasts which is really where the idea stemmed. I knew that this was something that I didn’t want to embark on alone – and as Kelly now lives in LA 🙁 – I asked Kyle! He definitely wasn’t all in on the idea at first. I really had to sell it to him. I think he was intrigued by the idea and definitely trusted me, so he was open to hearing more.
When thinking of a topic I picked relationships because I have always been so intrigued by how different relationships in our lives can truly impact us in major ways. No matter it dating, up’s/down’s, break ups you have it. It is also a topic that EVERYONE can relate to, which was super important to me. I wanted to create something that could be for everyone.
When we sat down to record our first episode we were both super nervous and still unsure if we wanted to follow through with it. It wasn’t until we recorded our 2nd episode (SPOILER: IT’S KELLY!!) that we really felt we could do it. I still have my moments where I lay in bed at night and get stressed, feeling like I am not cut out for this. I am lucky in that I have Kyle as a great cheerleader!
HOW: There are many, many resources out there if you too are interested in starting a podcast. For me I really trusted this blog post written by Grace Atwood. She clearly states out the equipment she uses, her hosting platform and a step by step of what you have to do to get going! I can’t recommend her blog and this post more. 🙂
Because our podcast is three people (generally), we had to get a few additional pieces of equipment because we were having audio issues when we plugged the mic into the recorder back. We linked everything below! We also decided to go with a free option for podcast hosting, rather than Lisbyn which Grace recommended, to start out as we wanted to ensure this was something we truly were going to invest in. The free option we went with was recommended by Alyssa (@pubblysity) and is called Anchor, what Anchor will do is distribute your podcast onto all of the platforms you will want it to live on! The only note is that it takes about 10 DAYS to get approved by Apple!! So definitely plan accordingly when launching a podcast!
