‘Tis the season for you+your babes (…or bae if you can bring his romantic side out…) to embark on a journey to do the most festive things this year in the city! Sure ya love going to 5th Ave and glancing through the beautiful holiday windows, but if you want some not-so-touristy options, proceed below. And don’t worry, we know you know about Santa Con already — details not included lol.
Drink hot cocoa in igloos overlooking Manhattan’s Skyline…
Imagine yourself now… sipping spiked hot cocoa in a red robe, warming up by the fire, in an igloo that lay overlooking the Empire State Building – literally a Manhattan Christmas dream come true, am I right? Rising high above on the corner of 27th Street and 5th Avenue, the 230 Fifth Rooftop bar brings the ultimate holiday experience for us Manhattan-ites longing for a cozy night out. Since the igloos typically fit around 10 people, you’re bound to mingle with the other guests tucked inside – which in my opinion, is the best part.
Take a scenic train ride Upstate…
Down for a little day getaway? It’s always nice to spur-of-the-moment decide to take a break from the city, especially if it involves drinking, reading, and enjoying the beauty of nature. Pick a destination a couple of hours outside of New York (think CT, NJ, Upstate NY), grab a friend, and take a joy ride. A winter wonderland is literally right at your finger tips, so drop the stress of the gridlocked city by taking advantage of our East Coast beauty. Don’t forget some Bailey’s + hot cocoa 😉
Stroll through Manhattan’s holiday markets…
Classic, I know. But Manhattan holiday markets are obvi the best part of NYC winters. Union Square, Columbus Circle, and Bryant Park’s Holiday Markets are among the most popular, carrying a selection of Brooklyn-based handcrafts, gourmet foods/teas/spices, knitwear, and other little trinkets. If famished whilst walking, snacking on an apple cider donut (or 6) is highly recommended.
Eat fondue & sip mulled wine inside yurts at The Standard East Village Winter Garden
Open now through March 2019, Winter Garden at The Standard East Village is THE PERFECT spot for either a date night with your man or a night “in” with a small group of your closest friends. Although a bit pricey, you really don’t need to yurt more than once a season. Snuggling up in one of the complimentary furs + feasting on an amazing selection of winter foods will not only make your Instafam full of envy, but will create one of your fave NYC winter memories.
Drive through the Dyker Heights Christmas lights…
For all you suburban babes, you’ve probably noticed the lack of “Candy Cane Lanes” nestled inside the busy streets of Manhattan. If you venture out to Dyker Heights, Brooklyn, however, your eyes will be in for a *sparkling* surprise (ha!). With every inch of Dyker Heights’ multi-million dollar homes covered and cute $1 hot cocoa stands sprawled along the driveways, your stroll through the ‘hood is going to make you have serious how-do-I-not-live-here FOMO.
