For those of you that follow us on Instagram stories I recently posted that Kyle and I resigned our lease for our 1 bedroom Manhattan apartment! We had a little back and forth on moving back to Brooklyn, but we quickly realized that we are very blessed in the affordable and convenience of our current place. So cheers to another year of being true Manhattan residents!
I realized I have only given small glimpses into our apartment on stories and our blog, so I wanted to do a full blog post recap on our bedroom, living room, 1 hallway (lol), and bathroom. Including links to absolutely EVERYTHING so it is all in one place! Enjoy. 🙂
Starting with the living room! We were superrrrrr lucky to get such a nice size living space. We are on the top floor so we have high ceilings and huge windows that make the space larger and cozier. When we first moved in together we decided to get a lot of new stuff including a new couch! I have linked ours below but for reference we have the King size and it fits perfectly.
Also for reference our rug is 8×10!

**Our floors are a little slanted (old NYC building) so it appears that our shelf is hung incorrectly above the TV, but it is not, it is the floor!!**
If you read my post about what I learned after living with my boyfriend for 8 months, I touched on the topic of the importance of making sure you each have your own space. For Kyle and I it was imperative to create this desk/office space shown above. We didn’t want to have this in the bedroom and our living room was large enough to mark off a small working space for Kyle’s Xbox and desktop computer. I tend to work from the couch or coffee shop during the week, so when Kyle comes home at night and I want to binge watch Bravo, he can have his own Xbox time without any fights over the TV! Compromise!!
Another trick for maximizing space is finding pieces that also double as storage. I bought this ivory tufted storage ottoman for my old Brooklyn bedroom but thought it worked perfectly with the vibe of our living room. I keep sweaters and sweatshirts within it and it also offers extra seating for when we have people over!
This is an area that we still need to update and are planning on doing so before 2020 but because we live in Manhattan and space is limited we needed to create more storage out in the open. Our kitchen has LIMITED STORAGE space and we have no pantry or even oven for that matter lol. So we decided to turn this shelf unit, previously used in mine and Kelly’s Bushwick bathroom for products, into a make shift bar cart. It was also great because our trash can and cleaning products fit nicely underneath it. Truly giving it multiple purposes! We are looking to purchase something a little more eye catching for this space hopefully soon!
NOW ONTO THE BEDROOM!
Our bedroom took us a second to come together. It isn’t always easy to create a gender neutral space that each agree on, but we were able to find little pieces that really made it a cozy space for each of us!
DOG NOT INCLUDED. lol. I am very grateful to Kyle because our bedroom came with 2 closets and he let me have both of them! (His closet is in the hallway for those curious). However I definitely had to downsize the amount of clothes, shoes and bags I had moving to Manhattan. Which honestly was not a bad thing! It is good to constantly check yourself and the things you own – I make a trip to Goodwill/Beacon’s Closet once every 3 months to sell and donate. I have been able to maximize this space by using different door hangers for bags and coats!
I’ve also tried to become more organized by creating shelf’s and dresser spaces for specific things. The above shelf I utilize for my sunglasses, perfume’s and nighttime skincare products only! It is a good way to ensure not going crazy.
This is our entryway hallway and only hallway lol. We wanted to make sure this space looked welcoming so we decided to go with a cozy runner, artwork and table that had different New York City books! We also maximized this space by adding coat hangers here for the winter.
**Note the below shop-able image is the correct print – make sure if wanting to purchase the runner option to get a size 2.9″ x 8’**
Our kitchen is in the hallway and is nothing to write home about which is why I am not showing it. We are lucky to have a microwave, dishwasher and large fridge/freezer! However it is a super small space and we definitely miss having more room for cooking here.
Lastly we have the bathroom! When we first saw this bathroom – we fell in love with it! It is small but it was nicely renovated and we are both obsessed with the light blue tiling throughout. It was too small to add a shelving unit for my products so having this in shower storage unit is a MAJOR plus. One of the best Christmas gifts ever – thank you to Kyle’s mom on that one!
I store the rest of my beauty, hair, and makeup within our mirror, below the sink and above the toilet! I keep the things I use everyday on the sink – like my makeup remover, soap, lotion, moisturizer and hairspray.
